Cuddle up & Read
Your baby's lifetime love of reading begins with the library.
DCL partners with area hospitals and pediatric doctors' and dentists' offices to provide new parents with a fun, meaningful introduction to the library and our early literacy services. We're committed to building bright futures by inspiring a love of reading, and no baby is too young!
Cuddle Up & Read has enjoyed steady growth over the past seven years.
DCL provides at least 10 new books every year to each of our pediatric partners' offices for use in their waiting rooms.
More than 4,000 Cuddle Up & Read gift packs are distributed to health facilities in Douglas County each year, including Sky Ridge Medical Center, Castle Rock Adventist, Parker Adventist, and UCHealth Highlands Ranch.
Research shows that experiences with reading throughout the early years profoundly affect the development of literacy.
Reading readiness begins at birth. Early literacy is what children know about reading before they learn to read.
We partner with 30 local pediatric doctors' and dentists' offices (with new ones added annually).
Our Summer Reading Program serves 14,000-18,000 participants annually, including babies. The time parents spend reading to their babies counts as time spent reading.
