Reading & Math Buddies

These unique programs match trained teen Big Buddies with Little Buddies in grades 1-3 for reading or math support.

Buddies meet regularly to read and play literacy-based games or work together on engaging math activities that build confidence and enjoyment. Does your child struggle with motivation, confidence, or skill in reading or math?
Little Reading Buddies
Drop in for special Reading Buddies sessions this June and July—no registration required!
  • Reading Buddies is not a tutoring service. This June and July we're offering drop-in sessions instead of our usual one-on-one sessions. Come in for reading practice as often as you'd like.
  • You will need a Douglas County Libraries library card. Get a card if you don’t already have one.
  • Each Little Buddy who drops in will get to read and play literacy-based games with a trained Big Buddy, either one-on-one or in a small group.
Little Math Buddies
Applications for the Fall session open in August.
  • Math Buddies is not a tutoring service. Please attend all scheduled meetings.
  • You will need a Douglas County Libraries library card. Get a card if you don’t already have one.
  • Upon acceptance to the Math Buddies program, your Little Buddy will be paired with a Big Buddy, a teen library volunteer who is trained to provide support on different math concepts through engaging activities that build confidence and enjoyment of the subject.
  • Space is limited and your participation in the program is not guaranteed until all applications have been reviewed and we have been able to match your child with a Teen Big Buddy volunteer.
Big Buddies

  • For each session, spend 30 minutes preparing, followed by one hour of reading and literacy games with your Little Reading Buddy, or one hour of engaging math activities with your Little Math Buddy.
  • Volunteer spots are limited and your participation in the program is not guaranteed until your application has been received and approved.
  • Volunteer orientation and training are required.
